Introduction:

In a significant move towards promoting indigenous innovation and scientific accomplishments, Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy, and Space, recently unveiled the theme for the "National Science Day 2024" – "Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat" (Developed India). This theme underscores the strategic focus on fostering public appreciation for Science, Technology, and Innovation, highlighting the achievements of Indian scientists in addressing challenges through homegrown technologies for the overall well-being of society.

National Science Day Significance:

The National Science Day, celebrated every year on 28th February, commemorates the revelation of the 'Raman Effect' by Sir C.V. Raman. Designated by the Government of India in 1986, this day serves as a platform for theme-based science communication activities nationwide. The theme launch not only kicks off the celebrations but also acts as a catalyst for NSD events in schools and colleges across the country.

India's Scientific Achievements:

Acknowledging recent scientific achievements, India has witnessed a remarkable rise in the global scientific landscape over the past decade. Ranked among the top five countries in scientific research publications and exhibiting an impressive climb in the Global Innovation Index (GII) from 81st to 40th since 2015, India is making substantial strides in science and technology.

The strengthening of the Science and Technology (S&T) ecosystem in India has been evident in various fields, including Artificial Intelligence, Astronomy, Solar & Wind Energy, Semiconductors, Climate Research, Space Research, and Biotechnology. Making history, India successfully landed Chandrayaan-3 on the moon's south pole, showing we are leaders in space exploration. On National Science Day, let us also look back at 2023's memorable moments in Indian science, especially with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). Chandrayaan-3, our moon mission, is a standout achievement, highlighting India's dedication to exploring space. In 2023, we also launched Aditya-L1, our first mission to study the Sun, marking our commitment to making strides in space science. These achievements showcase India's efforts to push the boundaries of scientific exploration in space.

Global Recognition and COVID-19 Response:

India's robust vaccine development capacity has been globally acknowledged, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The nation is now gearing up to match global strides in Quantum Technology, showcasing the transformative power of Indian scientific breakthroughs.

Contributing to 'Ease of Living':

The effect of Indian scientific breakthroughs is altogether upgrading the 'Ease of Living' for the common man. From the laboratory to the moon, India's scientific prowess is making a tangible difference in various aspects of life.

Collaborative Endeavors for Future Advancement:

Professor Abhay Karandikar, Secretary DST, highlighted the power of scientific endeavours to shape not only the future of India but also contribute significantly to global advancement. Emphasizing collaboration and inquiry, he expressed the importance of creating an ecosystem that leverages the transformative power of science for the greater good.

Conclusion:

As we embark on the celebration of National Science Day 2024 with the theme "Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat," it is evident that India's scientific community is at the forefront of driving innovation and progress. The theme not only signifies a new era but also presents an opportunity for collaboration, both domestically and internationally, to contribute to the well-being of India and humanity as a whole. Through indigenous technologies, India is poised to achieve new heights, ensuring a brighter and more developed future.
